Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine

Dr Ganesan Baranidharan (Dr Barani) is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine and has been practicing at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS trust in Leeds, UK since 2006. He is the clinical lead for Pain Medicine and holds an appointment as Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Leeds.
Dr Baranidharan completed his MBBS from Madras Medical College (1996), Madras, India. He pursued his Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine training from Yorkshire Deanery, UK and McMaster University, Canada (1999 - 2006). He holds a Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FRCA) and Pain Medicine (FFPMRCA) from the Royal College of Anaesthesia and the Faculty of Pain Medicine.
Dr Baranidharan developed the Neuromodulation Centre in Leeds from a small service to one of the biggest units in Europe. He is active in research and teaching, with the majority of his research focusing on neuropathic pain and neuromodulation. He has a special interest in the management of pain of visceral origin. He has made a significant contribution to the development of the UK National Neuromodulation Registry and currently chairs the Data set Committee and the Clinical Governance Committee.
Dr Baranidharan is Vice President of the Faculty of Pain Medicine and the Vice Chair of the Board of Examiners. He also serves as Chair of the Professional Standards Committee and has contributed to a number of national initiatives.
