CardioSTAT Home ECG Monitoring

Some heart rhythm problems come and go, so a short test can easily miss them. CardioSTAT home ECG monitoring records your heart continuously for up to 14 days, at home. LivingCare's cardiology service provides this across our Leeds and Sheffield clinics - no GP referral needed, self-pay or insurance.

CardioSTAT Home ECG Monitoring

Overview

What Is CardioSTAT Home ECG Monitoring?

CardioSTAT is a lightweight, single-use cardiac monitoring patch that continuously records your heart rhythm for up to 14 days. You wear it at home during normal daily life, so intermittent heart rhythm problems that a brief clinic test can miss have a much longer window to show up. Extended monitoring over several days is more likely to capture intermittent arrhythmias than a single 24-hour recording [1].

Worn on your upper chest, the patch is showerproof, so you can shower and stay active while it records - capturing a longer stretch of your everyday heartbeat than a standard ECG for a fuller clinical picture.

When You Should Consider Home ECG Monitoring

Home ECG monitoring may be helpful if you are experiencing:

  • Palpitations, or a fluttering, racing or pounding heartbeat
  • Dizziness or light-headedness
  • Blackouts, collapses or unexplained falls
  • Breathlessness where a heart rhythm cause is suspected
  • Suspected atrial fibrillation (AF - an irregular, often fast heartbeat)
  • Episodes of a fast, slow or irregular heartbeat
  • Monitoring after treatment for an arrhythmia, or ongoing checks on a known heart rhythm condition

If you'd prefer your monitor fitted at the clinic, or need 72 hours or less, our 24-72 hour or 7-day ECG monitoring service may suit you better.

Who Home ECG Monitoring Is For

The service suits adults who need investigation of possible heart rhythm abnormalities and would benefit from a longer recording than a standard ECG or short monitor. Your clinician decides whether CardioSTAT monitoring is right for you.

Athletes and Sports Professionals

CardioSTAT is also suitable for professional and amateur athletes who need cardiac rhythm assessment - for example, to investigate symptoms during training or competition, to check palpitations or an irregular heartbeat, or as part of a return-to-play review after illness or a cardiac concern.

Athletes can be referred directly by their Club Physician, Team Doctor, Sports Medicine Consultant, or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional. This works alongside LivingCare's sports medicine service, so findings can inform further investigations, treatment and return-to-sport decisions where appropriate.

How the Service Works

CardioSTAT is a home-based service, so most people never need a hospital visit. There are six simple steps:

  1. Referral. Your LivingCare clinician arranges the test if CardioSTAT monitoring is appropriate for you.
  2. Device posted to your home. The patch arrives with fitting instructions and a pre-paid return envelope.
  3. Self-fit at home. You apply the patch to your upper chest and it records continuously for up to 14 days. You can shower and stay active while wearing it.
  4. Postal return. Remove the patch when monitoring ends and post it back in the pre-paid envelope.
  5. CardioSTAT analysis and report. CardioSTAT's specialist cardiac analysis team produces a comprehensive report.
  6. Clinician follow-up. Your clinician reviews the report with you, explains any heart rhythm abnormalities found, and recommends any further investigations or treatment if needed.

Risks of CardioSTAT Home ECG Monitoring

CardioSTAT is a non-invasive, low-risk test - the patch simply adheres to your skin and records your heart rhythm, with no injections or procedures involved. The main consideration is possible mild skin irritation where the patch is worn during prolonged use, which usually settles once the patch is removed.
