Ultrasound guided pain injections use real-time imaging to deliver targeted pain relief with a high degree of accuracy. Ultrasound guided pain injections use real-time ultrasound imaging to guide a fine needle into a joint, tendon, bursa or around a nerve. These injections may involve treatments such as corticosteroids, local anaesthetics, hyaluronic acid, platelet-rich plasma or other specialist injectables, depending on your diagnosis and clinical needs.

Before Your Appointment
No formal preparation is usually required. Bringing previous imaging results and noting symptom history may be helpful.
During Your Appointment
The procedure typically takes 10–20 minutes. The clinician cleans the skin, applies local anaesthetic, uses ultrasound to guide the needle, and delivers the injection.
After Your Appointment
You may remain briefly for observation. Mild soreness or bruising is common; avoid strenuous activity for 24–48 hours.
Using ultrasound guidance improves accuracy and reduces the risk of complications, making ultrasound-guided joint injections a reliable option for diagnosing and managing pain affecting everyday life. These injections are low risk. Temporary discomfort or bruising may occur; infection or allergic reactions are rare.
Most people return to normal activities within one to two days. Steroid effects may take several days to develop.
