A stroke or transient ischaemic attack (TIA, or mini-stroke) is a warning that deserves answers. LivingCare's specialist geriatric medicine consultants provide prompt private stroke and TIA review at our Canon Medical Arena clinic in Sheffield - assessing your risk, your recovery and how to reduce the chance of a future event.

Sudden stroke symptoms are a medical emergency. If you or someone with you has sudden face drooping, arm weakness or slurred speech, call 999 immediately. LivingCare provides specialist outpatient review and secondary prevention - not emergency care.
A stroke and TIA review is an outpatient specialist consultation for people who have had, or are suspected of having had, a transient ischaemic attack or stroke. A consultant assesses your vascular risk factors, reviews your medication and sets out a clear plan to lower the risk of a future event.
A TIA is a temporary interruption to the blood supply to part of the brain. It causes stroke-like symptoms - such as face drooping, arm weakness or slurred speech - that usually pass within minutes to hours. The symptoms may resolve, but the warning does not. The NHS is clear that a TIA means you are at high risk of a full stroke in the near future [1], and national NICE guidance calls for urgent specialist assessment after a suspected TIA [2]. The Stroke Association reports that more than 1 in 12 people who have a TIA go on to have a stroke within a week [3].
That is why timing matters. If your symptoms are new or ongoing, seek urgent NHS assessment or call 999 - do not wait for a private appointment. Where the acute phase has passed, our review focuses on understanding what happened, confirming your risk and putting the right prevention in place.
Your consultation with a LivingCare consultant typically includes:
A written report goes to you and, with your consent, your GP, with clear recommendations for ongoing management.
This service is suitable for:
Before your appointment: bring any hospital letters, a list of your current medication and, where you can, an account of what happened and when. There is no special preparation needed.
During your appointment: your consultant takes a full history, examines you and reviews your risk factors and medication. You will have time to ask questions and talk through what the findings mean for you.
After your appointment: you receive a written report and a personalised secondary-prevention plan. Many of the biggest gains in preventing a further event come from managing vascular risk - blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and, importantly, atrial fibrillation, a common heart-rhythm problem that raises stroke risk. Where a cardiac cause or rhythm disturbance needs closer investigation, your consultant can arrange onward assessment through our cardiology department.
Stroke and TIA review sits within our wider geriatric and memory service in Sheffield, so where several health issues interact, they can be looked at together rather than in isolation.

No. This is an outpatient specialist review for people who are past the acute stage, focused on assessing risk and preventing a future event. If you have sudden stroke symptoms - face drooping, arm weakness or slurred speech - call 999 immediately. A TIA or stroke is a medical emergency and needs urgent NHS care, not a private appointment.
Because a TIA is a warning sign. The NHS states that a TIA means you are at high risk of a full stroke in the near future [1], and the Stroke Association reports that more than 1 in 12 people who have a TIA go on to have a stroke within a week [3]. Prompt assessment and the right secondary prevention help lower that risk.
No GP referral needed. You can book privately, self-pay, and see a consultant at our Canon Medical Arena clinic in Sheffield. With your consent, we share a written report with your GP so your NHS care stays joined up.
