Mr Lachlan Carter

Mr Lachlan Carter is a highly renowned Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with over 20 years of experience. He has extensive expertise in a wide range of oral and maxillofacial conditions and treatments. His areas of special interest include oral surgery, wisdom teeth removal, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and facial pain, facial trauma, soft tissue abnormalities of the mouth (including vascular malformations), and facial deformity surgery.

Mr Carter has many years of experience within the NHS and is a core member of the craniofacial pain, facial deformity surgery, and vascular malformations multidisciplinary teams in Leeds. He is currently the Clinical Governance Lead for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and has supervised local, regional and national audits, with a focus on improving patient care.

He first qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Glasgow in 1993, before going on to obtain his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Dundee in 2001. He was awarded his FRCS (OMFS) by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2008 and also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research from the University of Leeds. In 2011, he completed a fellowship in craniofacial surgery at Hôpital Necker–Enfants Malades in Paris, France.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Carter is a highly respected contributor to medical education and research. He currently serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds and is the lead for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery trainees’ education programme in Yorkshire. He was awarded National Surgical Trainer of the Year in 2019. He has published over 90 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has authored eight textbook chapters. He is a member of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Medical and Defence Union of Scotland, and the British Medical Association.
