ENT Consultant

Mr Sanjay Verma is a senior ENT Consultant appointed to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2009, offering a wealth of experience in the diagnosis and management of conditions of the Ear, Nose and Throat in adults and children referred to him from the region and beyond.
He has over three decades of specialist practice in centres of excellence at home and abroad. Indeed, he has taught and trained many colleagues who have subsequently become consultants in the region. He undertook his medical training at the University of Cambridge, where he graduated with a triple First and Distinction. After a period of specialist ENT training in the Cambridge region, during which he was also awarded a PhD for his research, he was awarded the coveted Thomas Wickham-Jones ENT fellowship to Toronto General Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.
It was here that he gained the latest knowledge and skills in the management of adult Ear, Nose and Balance disorders, as well as children’s ENT problems. In 2012 Mr Verma undertook a fellowship at the Causse clinic in Beziers, France, where he gained experience in laser ear and hearing surgery, as well as cosmetic surgery for bat ears in children.
Mr Verma also subspecialises in Nose and Sinus surgery. He has developed an interest in endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and was amongst the first to perform Balloon Sinuplasty in Yorkshire. He regularly manages nasal and sinus conditions, performing surgery to ease nasal blockage, improve breathing and help snoring. Mr Verma also regularly sees patients with neck lumps, voice and swallowing problems, and is able to perform flexible nasoendoscopy in clinic to visualise the throat.
In his NHS practice in Leeds, Mr Verma has been instrumental in introducing laser ear surgery (for cholesteatoma and stapedectomy), implantable hearing devices and coblation tonsillectomy, and heads up the joint ENT/Neurology balance clinic and Implantable hearing device multidisciplinary clinic at the Leeds General Infirmary. He is also Clinical Lead for the Lateral Skull Base (Acoustic neuroma) ENT service. Most recently, Mr Verma has led the development of balloon tuboplasty for Eustachian tube dysfunction.
He is committed to training the next generation of surgeons. As the appointed Royal College of Surgeons Tutor for Leeds, he was responsible for overseeing the delivery and standards of surgical training throughout the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust for many years. Presently, he is Appraisal and Educational Lead for the Head and Neck Directorate. Nationally, he sits on the ENT UK Committee for Global Health, as well as the British Society of Otology Committee.
Mr Verma aims to provide clear and informed choices tailored around busy patient lifestyles, in a friendly and caring environment.
