Mr Ahmed Elshaer

Mr Ahmed Elshaer is a General and Upper GI Consultant Surgeon at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He has worked in the endoscopy department at LivingCare since 2021. He specialises in oesophagogastric cancer and bariatric surgery. He performs a full range of minimally invasive keyhole surgery, including gallbladder surgery, biliary surgery, hernias, acid reflux surgery, diaphragmatic hernias, weight loss surgery (bariatric), and oesophagogastric cancer surgery. He also performs upper GI endoscopy for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Additionally, he offers robotic surgery for a wide range of complex upper GI cases.

Mr Elshaer began his training in general surgery in 2010. During his training, he completed two fellowships in Birmingham and Hull, gaining extensive experience in oesophagogastric cancer and bariatric surgery. He has performed numerous minimally invasive surgeries in upper GI surgery. He completed training in robotic surgery and has undertaken numerous robotic procedures. He also has wide exposure to other subspecialties such as hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation. Mr Elshaer has also worked as an upper GI consultant surgeon in Leeds and Brighton before moving to Bradford.

Mr Elshaer earned his PhD during his training at Cairo University, where he also graduated from. He is a lecturer at Cairo University, has published many research papers in peer-reviewed journals, and has participated in numerous national and global studies. He serves as a reviewer for many high-impact journals and has delivered many presentations at national and international meetings. He is actively involved in educational courses and values the importance of training and teaching junior doctors. He is a recognised trainer by the GMC and is a faculty member at the Royal College of Surgeons of England for many courses.

He also values governance processes and has been appointed as governance lead for general surgery in various placements throughout his career.
