We are looking for a Management Accountant (Financial Operations) who is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the monthly close, day-to-day oversight of the transactional finance team, and continued improvement of the finance systems and processes that support the wider LivingCare finance function.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role acts as first reviewer in preparation of the monthly management accounts, owns delivery of month-end postings and close tasks, and provides coaching and professional oversight of the Accounts Assistant (Sales ledger + AR), Finance Assistant (Purchasing + AP) and Finance Apprentice.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End & Financial Reporting
- Own delivery of month-end postings and close tasks, working to reduce the close timeline further (currently around seven days, targeting four).
- Act as second reviewer on balance sheet and P&L movements, flagging anything that looks wrong before it reaches the Financial Controller or the board pack.
- Maintain oversight of ledger integrity across the transactional finance processes.
- Support Financial Controller with maintaining a robust financial control framework.
Cash Management & Transactional Oversight
- Act as first review of the end-to-end financial operations of the business, including:
- Billing and accounts receivable
- Purchasing and accounts payable
- Stock and inventory accounting
- Act as first review of routine payment runs
- Approve coding queries and write-offs within an agreed threshold, escalating anything cross-entity, audit-facing, or of material financial judgement to the Financial Controller.
- Oversee ongoing improvement of the stock control process, working with accounts payable Finance Assistant and site teams to improve data quality and embed a well-controlled stock ledger.
- Oversee cash forecasting and treasury management, working with the financial controller and CFO to ensure proactive planning and management of cash needs to fund trading and investment.
Statutory Reporting & Audit
- Work closely with Financial Controller and external accountants in preparation of annual statutory accounts
- Support maintenance of strong documentation and financial controls to support and efficient and well-managed audit process.
Tax & Regulatory Compliance
- Prepare the quarterly VAT returns with oversight from the Financial Controller
- Maintain appropriate documentation to support VAT reporting and external review where required.
Financial Operations Team
- Provide day-to-day coaching and cover for the Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant and Finance Apprentice.
- Act as first point of escalation for the transactional team, resolving issues directly rather than routing routine queries to the Financial Controller.
- Support the Financial Controller in establishing clear role responsibilities and review processes within the team.
Process Improvement & Finance Transformation
- Support the Financial Controller to drive continuous improvement within financial operations, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy and scalability.
- Drive continued build-out of the Xero add-on stack, including accruals and prepayments automation and intercompany reconciliation tooling.
- Embed process improvements as eClinics-related workflows bed in, and support further automation opportunities across AP, AR and billing. Lead initiatives to automate and streamline finance processes, reducing manual effort and improving reporting timelines.
- Contribute to the financial health of the business through ongoing review and implementation of strong financial and procurement policies and effective implementation of controls to support policy compliance.
Ad Hoc Projects
- Support the Financial Controller and CFO on finance workstreams as they arise.
