March is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate Cancer UK is inviting men to take on a challenge of walking 11,000 steps a day in a bid to raise awareness. However, this campaign goes beyond awareness: it’s also a great reminder that getting active can reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

As a healthcare provider with expertise in prostate screening, we want to share five ways you can support your prostate health this March and beyond.

Get Moving!

Join the step challenge, hit the gym, go for a run, swim or cycle. Regular physical activity helps you maintain a healthy weight, supports hormonal balance, and improves cardiovascular health. Studies suggest men with an active lifestyle may reduce their risk of cancer.

Maintain a Healthy Weight

Research published in The BMJ has linked obesity with more aggressive forms of prostate cancer. Maintaining a healthy weight through diet and exercise may reduce risk and support long-term well-being.

Eat a Balanced Diet

While there’s no ‘prostate diet’, diet does matter when it comes to your prostate and overall health.

Try focusing on long-term sustainable habits. These include having vegetables with every meal, eating oily fish a few times a week, and reducing your intake of processed meat and packaged food. This is a good place to start when it comes to healthy eating.

Proactive testing

There’s no national screening programme for prostate cancer. However, the PSA test is easily accessible. If the test shows raised levels of a specific protein in the man’s blood, a prostate MRI scan and biopsy can help make up the diagnostic puzzle.

At LivingCare, we offer rapid access to prostate screening, PSA testing, MRI diagnostics and biopsy services across Sheffield and Leeds.

Check Your Risk

When you take part in March the Month or another Prostate Cancer Awareness event, it’s a good reminder to check your personal risk. If you are over 50, of Black ethnicity, have a brother or father with prostate cancer, or carry certain inherited genetic variations, you might want to consider a test.

Take The Next Step

While you’re out walking your 11,000 steps, have a think about how you can be proactive in your prostate health. Is it time to book a non-invasive PSA test or have an open conversation with a consultant? If you need further investigations, we can organise MRI scanning and biopsy services at speed.

With almost 100% of men surviving prostate cancer diagnosed at stage 1 or 2, early detection makes a big difference.

LivingCare offers fast access to private prostate screening, PSA testing, advanced MRI diagnostics and transperineal biopsy services at our locations across Sheffield and Leeds. Our experienced consultants use state-of-the-art imaging technology to provide clarity quickly.

If you are thinking about testing, March is the ideal time to act. Early answers bring reassurance, and when treatment is needed, acting early leads to better outcomes.
