June was a busy month for LivingCare in the local and trade press. From a free community skin-check event in Sheffield to a new full-body MRI service in Leeds, here is a round-up of where LivingCare made the news - and what it means for patients across Yorkshire.

Free Skin Checks At The Olympic Legacy In Action Event

On Sunday 14 June, LivingCare's dermatology team took a free community Skin Check Service to the Olympic "Legacy in Action" community day at Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park. Now in its fifth year, the day draws around 3,000 visitors - and this year they could have moles, skin tags and areas of skin discolouration looked at, free of charge, by an experienced clinician.

The service was led by Dr Thomas King, Consultant Dermatologist at LivingCare Group, alongside a specialised team. Visitors could talk through any skin changes they had noticed, ask questions, and get guidance on whether something was worth investigating further. Where no concern was found, people left reassured; where a closer look was sensible, they were pointed towards the right next step.

It reflects something we care about: looking at skin changes early. Melanoma skin cancer accounts for around 5% of all new cancer cases in the UK, with roughly 9,900 new cases in males and 9,500 in females every year, according to Cancer Research UK. Yet many people put off getting a mole or skin change checked because they are not sure it matters.

"Early diagnosis can make a life-changing difference when it comes to skin cancer," said Dr King. "Many people are unsure whether a mole or skin change is something they should be concerned about, and often delay getting it checked. This event is designed to remove some of those barriers by giving people direct access to experienced clinicians in a relaxed and supportive community setting."

The day was covered by trade title THIIS Magazine and by The Star in Sheffield. If you have a mole or skin change you would like looked at, explore our dermatology service - the Yorkshire Dermatology Centre of Excellence, part of the LivingCare Group.

A New Full-Body MRI Service In Leeds

In late May, LivingCare introduced a new full-body MRI service in Leeds at its Thorpe Park Clinic, and the launch was picked up across the regional press in early June. The service uses 3T MRI scanners with AI-enhanced image reconstruction to assess multiple key areas of the body in a single, non-invasive appointment.

LivingCare is the first private healthcare provider in the North of England to bring this technology to a 3T scanner, which helps shorten scan times while keeping image quality high. Used alongside a person's clinical history and risk factors, a full-body MRI can help identify internal changes before symptoms appear, supporting earlier clinical review - part of a more proactive, diagnostic-led approach to health.

"Over the last few years, we've seen growing demand from patients wanting to take greater ownership of their health," said Helen Haigh, Head of Imaging at LivingCare Group. "The launch of this MRI service marks the next step in our commitment to a more proactive, diagnostic-led approach."

The launch was reported by the Yorkshire Times and the Yorkshire Evening Post, and syndicated to MSN. You can explore our full-body MRI service at our Leeds clinic - no GP referral needed, self-pay or insurance.
