a Cardiac exercise test is used to assess how your heart responds to physical exertion.
A cardiac exercise test, often called an exercise ECG or treadmill test, assesses how your heart responds to physical activity. While you walk on a treadmill the speed and incline gradually increase. Throughout the test, staff monitor your heart rhythm, blood pressure and any symptoms, looking for changes that may suggest reduced blood flow to the heart muscle or abnormal rhythms.
The table below has multiple columns and can be scrolled horizontally on smaller screens. When viewing on mobile, this table is best viewed in landscape format.
An ETT, also called a stress test, checks how your heart works during physical activity. You’ll usually walk on a treadmill or pedal a stationary bike while your heart rate, blood pressure, and ECG are monitored.
Your doctor may recommend it if you have symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness during exercise, or to see how well your heart functions after a heart attack or treatment. It helps detect coronary artery disease or abnormal heart rhythms.
You’ll be connected to heart monitors, then asked to exercise while the intensity gradually increases. The test continues until you reach a target heart rate, develop symptoms, or show changes on the ECG that suggest a problem.
Yes, it is generally very safe. Medical staff closely monitor you throughout, and emergency equipment is available if needed. However, you should inform your doctor if you have certain conditions like severe heart failure or recent heart attack.
