Healthcare Assistant (HCA) - Outpatients

Overview

The health care worker is a member of care team appointed to support Registered Nurses in the delivery of direct patient care. The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level with patients and their families. The post holder will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a registered nurse, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.

The LivingCare Group have multiple sites across the West Yorkshire region. As part of this role you may be required to travel between sites.

Responsibility

    • Support the registered nurse in implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received.
    • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient/relatives and carers.
    • Support with auditing and stock checks and management as required.
    • Set up of the room and preparation of all clinical areas in line with service requirements.
    • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the team.
    • Contribute to the legality and accuracy of the patients care plan/ and or other reports and the effectiveness of the established communication /reporting system.
    • Participate in regular meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
    • Undertake tasks and procedures, in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the care environment.
    • Meet and greet patients that require testing, ensuring you have checked their personal details against the information provided
    • Patient engagement, reassurance and answering questions
    • Administrative duties and case management on system 1
    • Reporting of data and information via the correct channels. Escalate positive samples so reporting to PHE can be done within timescale
    • Ensuring all processes for carrying out swabbing are followed as per our policy
    • Run POCT device as per protocol
    • Ensure adequate verbal consent process for swabbing procedures as per guidance
    • Preparation of swabbing kits ready for the patients arrival
    • Provide support and assistance to registered staff.
    • To assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products as directed by the Registered Lead Nurse.
    • To assist in the maintenance of the clinic cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times.
    • To receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the clinic are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.
    • To assist and support registered nurses and clerical staff in administrative duties as required.

Healthcare Experience: Minimum 1 year.
